WE DO NOT NEED DATING SIMS IN STEAM!!!
a compilation of steam greenlight comments from a select number of otome games
The best way to shut these assholes up is to keep getting games on Steam no matter what they say. Vote for otome, dating, visual novels, and “aimed at girls” titles whenever you see them. Here are a few:
- Dandelion -wishes brought to you- (Cheritz)
- Backstage Pass (sakevisual)
- Nicole (Winter Wolves)
- Spirited Heart (Winter Wolves)
- Always Remember Me (Winter Wolves)
- Flower Shop: Winter in Fairbrook (Winter Wolves)
- Heileen (Winter Wolves)
- Blue Rose (White Cat)
- Date Warp (Hanako Games)
- 1931: Scheherazade at the Library of Pergamum (Black Chicken Studios)
To discover further related titles in Greenlight, try searching for “visual novel”, “otome”, “dating”, or “romance”.
Now I’m pissed.
Normally I like to keep my personal opinion to myself, but as a lover of otome games and dating sims, I feel like I should speak my mind.
It’s not dating sims that are the problem. It’s the otome genre in general. What’s wrong with otome games? I would really love it for anyone of these naysayers to sit down with me and explain why exactly we should “have less otome games”. Any real reason? Wait, there isn’t one? I didn’t think so.
You know what that means? Girl-centered/otome games are allowed to exist just like any other game.
You want visual novels for men? There are plenty of places to get them, let me tell you. I have plenty of otaku male friends who find them completely and or partially translated and available to play. Heard of Key/Visual Arts? You know them, of course, if you’ve heard of Angel Beats!, Clannad or Little Busters! or Air. How about any of the Type-Moon VNs? Symphonic Rain? De Capo? How about you head over to Fuwanovel and tell me how many otome games are translated vs how many male-centered visual novels are translated. Go ahead; I dare you.
Most of the otome games are not translated. They don’t even have a partial patch. Trust me, I’ve done my research. We have lovely, gifted people who are hard at work trying to translate the Starry Sky series, but only Spring has been fully translated so far. The only visual novel I know of that even got translated and localized was Hakuoki.
So don’t give me that crap about how there are “too many otome games”. They’re really aren’t, at least not ones available for all to play. So what if there are more coming out nowadays? You wanna know why that is? Because otome games actually do make money, too! Females, as a whole, are now playing video games more than ever, and otome games are fun for the same reason why male-centered dating sims are fun to the males that play them.
I’m so sick and tired of this sexist crap that keeps popping up every time someone drops the word “otome”. Let it go. Stop hating on some one just because they enjoy otome games, especially if you know nothing about them. I don’t go around complaining when guys like anime or TV shows or VNs that have girls with impossible breast to hip ratios because they’re allowed to like that stuff, so please don’t complain about my bishounens. Any otome game fan who hears some bull like this should just ask them why they think otome games are shit and watch these haters flounder.
Otome games aren’t going away, so just suck it up.
I don’t think this is very good. I was strained for thinking of how it could all flow and what would be said (´；ω；`) but at least it is up. Oh the name is Keh, pronounced like kay or k
